BC Oil and Gas Commission
The BC Oil and Gas Commission (Commission) is a single-window regulatory agency with responsibilities for overseeing oil, gas and renewable geothermal operations in British Columbia. The Commission oversees activities from exploration and development, to pipeline transportation and reclamation. The Commission was created as a Crown corporation through the enactment of the Oil and Gas Commission Act and in October 2010, transitioned to the Oil and Gas Activities Act. This regulatory model is designed to provide a streamlined one-stop regulatory agency. Regulatory responsibility is delegated to the Commission through the Oil and Gas Activities Act and includes specified enactments under the Forest Act, Heritage Conservation Act, Land Act, Environmental Management Act, and Water Sustainability Act.

CEPA represents Canada’s transmission pipeline companies who operate approximately 119,000 kilometres of pipeline in Canada and 14,000 kilometres in the United states. CEPA members move approximately 1.2 billion barrels of liquid petroleum products and 5.4 trillion cubic feet of natural gas each year. In fact. 97 percent of Canada’s daily crude oil and natural gas is moved from producing regions to markets throughout North America by CEPA members. Through leadership and collaboration, CEPA enables its member companies to advance their operations and develop safety and environmental innovations for the Canadian transmission pipeline industry. They help a wide range of stakeholders explore multiple paths to continuously improve the way pipelines operate.
